Braille Institute is a non-profit organization whose mission is to eliminate barriers to a fulfilling life caused by blindness and severe sight loss. Braille Institute offers a wide array of programs and services designed to help people with vision loss lead enriched and fulfilling lives. Funded entirely by private donations, all of their services are completely free of charge.
Their award-winning Braille Institute Library offers more than 1.4 million books on audio, in braille and in large-print format for those who are visually impaired or physically disabled. Their new technology centres, called Connection Pointe, are now open and can help you learn about the latest in mainstream and accessible technology. At Braille, the ratio of volunteers to employees is 13 to 1; this is one important reason they are able to serve an ever-growing number of people who are experiencing vision loss and blindness.
Every year, thousands of dedicated men and women share their time and skills. The volunteer force called “Team Braille Institute” allows volunteers to offer a tremendous range of services and keep them free of charge for the students. From welcoming guests, teaching and guiding students, to helping spread information about innovative advances in technology, volunteers play a vital role in the organization and in the lives of those they serve.
Volunteer opportunities range from short-term to long-term in a variety of areas including, but not limited to, education, marketing and communications, social media and technology, as well as research and administrative work. One person can make a difference. You can make a difference. It happens every day. Braille Institute relies on the support of donors like you to make a difference in the lives of the thousands of blind and visually impaired children and adults they help each year. When people donate money, they do so for many reasons. Many do it because they or a loved one have been personally touched by their services. Some simply find the work Braille Institute does to be worth supporting, while others are looking for a way to make a difference.
