Everyone wants to make his or her community a better place to live. However, when facing big challenges such as homelessness, it may seem like nothing can be done. To help individuals get involved in the mission to end homelessness, Father Joe’s Villages is encouraging people to do one simple thing to help all of San Diego shine: Be a “Good Neighbor.”

During September, Father Joe’s Villages will host Good Neighbor Month: a month-long celebration of the power of giving and kindness. Through a series of events, Father Joe’s Villages hopes to inspire people to unlock the potential of their communities by practicing compassion towards their neighbors in need.

There are many ways to participate in Father Joe’s Villages Good Neighbor Month. Whether someone donates cash or goods, volunteers or signs up for Father Joe’s Villages Annual Thanksgiving Day 5k, they are making a positive impact in the lives of their neighbors.

Father Joe’s Villages will also offer several events designed to making giving back fun for everyone:

Tune in to Fox Sports San Diego September 5, 2017 for Father Joe’s Villages’ Game Day Takeover and watch the Padres face off against the St. Louis Cardinals. Enjoy the game and learn more about how to help Father Joe’s Villages transform lives.

On September 20th, Father Joe’s Villages will host The Art of Ending Homelessness. The event will feature an art exhibition, a screening of A Time Out of Mind starring Richard Gere, a showing of their short film Shine and a panel discussion featuring local artists whose work touches on homelessness.

“Everyone can make a difference in the lives of another human being. Good Neighbors make it possible for Father Joe’s Villages to provide life transforming programs to individuals and families in need,” CEO and President Deacon Jim Vargas shared with Giving Back Magazine. In 2016 alone, Father Joe’s Villages served over 13,500 people experiencing homelessness in San Diego due to the support of Good Neighbors in the community.
