Agnes Barrelet
A Passionate Advocate for Animals and Nature
Agnes Barrelet began her journey at a tender age when she spent summers in the beautiful French mountains, where she milked sheep and goats, tended to cows, and immersed herself in the wonders of nature. It was there that her love for animals and the environment took root, and it has flourished ever since. Inspired by her philanthropic work in West Africa where she established a preschool, nursery, and scholarship program for underprivileged children, Agnes felt compelled to create a positive impact closer to home. In 2014, the idea of the San Diego Animal Sanctuary and Farm was born – a haven for animals in need and a sanctuary where families could connect with nature and share their love for animals.
Today, Agnes finds immense fulfillment in her role. Providing forever homes for animals that have lost theirs is a deeply rewarding experience. Equally gratifying is witnessing the joy and happiness of visitors who come to the sanctuary in Alpine, just east of San Diego. Whether she is working at the ticket booth, engaging with guests, or overseeing operations, our working in development to ensure the next donation or grant for operational expenses is received, Agnes cherishes the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of both animals and humans.
Agnes’ daily routine is as dynamic as the sanctuary itself. With over 200 animals to care for, she ensures that all aspects of the operation run smoothly. From checking on the animal care and maintenance teams to overseeing the flourishing organic garden and orchard that sustains the animals and community, her days are filled with purpose and commitment. Additionally, she devotes time to marketing efforts through social media and establishes partnerships with organizations in San Diego that share her mission of helping animals.
Outside of work, Agnes enjoys spending time with her family, whether in San Diego or during her annual visits to France.
Agnes Barrelet comenzó su viaje en la tierna infancia, cuando pasaba sus veranos en las hermosas montañas de Francia donde ordeñaba ovejas y cabras, pastoreaba vacas y se sumergía en los misterios de la naturaleza. Es ahí donde se inició su amor por los animales y el medio ambiente y desde entonces no dejó de crecer. Inspirada por su labor filantrópico que llevó adelante en el oeste de África, donde creó un jardín de infantes, guardería y programa de becas para los niños más necesitados, Agnes sintió que era momento de lograr impactos más cercanos a su hogar. Es así como en el 2014 surgió la idea del San Diego Animal Sanctuary and Farm, un paraíso para animales vulnerables y un santuario donde las familias pueden ir a conectar con la naturaleza y compartir su amor por los animales.
Hoy en día Agnes se siente realizada con esta labor, brindando hogar a animales que lo habían perdido y siendo testigo de la alegría y del placer de los visitantes al llegar al santuario en Alpine, al este de San Diego. Sea tanto estando en la venta de entradas, conversando con los visitantes o supervisando operaciones que aseguran que el trabajo de desarrollo sea llevando adelante o que se reciban las próximas donaciones o subvenciones para gastos operativos, Agnes valora esta oportunidad de hacer la diferencia, tanto en la vida de los animales como la de las personas.
La rutina diaria de Agnes es muy dinámica, con más de 200 animales a los que atender, ella se asegura de que todo funcione a la perfección. Desde chequear el cuidado y mantenimiento de los animales a supervisar el creciente jardín y huerta orgánica que son parte del sostenimiento de los animales y de la comunidad, todo esto hace su día algo sumamente gratificante, sumando también esfuerzos de marketing a través de los medios y asociaciones con organizaciones de San Diego con las cuales comparten una misión, la de salvar animales.
Por fuera del trabajo, Agnes disfruta compartir tiempo en familia, sea tanto en San Diego como durante su visita anual a Francia.
