Now Sharp Chula Vista is on a journey to go above and beyond – building a next-generation hospital. With a $300 million investment, the new hospital will be positioned to provide the best medical care in the region. With the help of dedicated community leaders Scott McMillin, Bob Sutherland, Doug Fuller and many others, Sharp HealthCare Foundation has launched the Above and Beyond Campaign – the most ambitious philanthropic effort in the hospital’s history. “Our community’s shared vision and generosity will bring new levels of medical care and innovation to our bi-national region,” Doug Fuller, Campaign Co-Chair tells Giving Back Magazine. “The time is now for us to come together to go above and beyond.”
As the largest provider of healthcare for the bi-national community, Sharp Chula Vista treats people when they need it most. Last year more than 66,000 patients were treated in the emergency department, 2,866 babies were born and 527 cardiac and orthopedic surgeries were performed. This new hospital will include five high-tech surgical suites, a hybrid operating room, 138 family friendly private patient rooms and a rooftop café with panoramic views.

“This new hospital will transform Sharp Chula Vista and allows us to better treat patients traveling and from outside the United States needing emergency medical care,” explains Dr. Andres Smith, Medical Director of the Sharp Chula Vista Emergency Department and Global Patient Services. “Our Global Patient Services program coordinates patient transfers and evacuations from around the world to a Sharp hospital. We also have an experienced bilingual and bicultural team who help manage and support patients and their families during an international emergency.”
