The Hotel del Coronado is an icon within the San Diego community; from beloved holiday traditions and weekend brunches to the perfect getaway. This year marks an important milestone for this historic and storied hotel as it celebrates its 130th anniversary.
Established in 1888 by Elisha Babcock, Jr. and Hampton L. Story, two men fundamental to the development of the Coronado community, the Hotel del Coronado was created with a grand vision in mind to be the “talk of the Western world”. Gaining widespread popularity and receiving official status as a National Historic Landmark by 1977, the resort’s reputation has been earned over a century of providing guests with exciting experiences, luxurious accommodations and unforgettable memories.
In honor of their 130th anniversary, the hotel will be celebrating throughout 2018 beginning with two grand events. On February 17th, the Del will host their Icons + Masters Anniversary Gala which will allow guests to enjoy classic menu items created by talented chefs along with celebrity photographer John Russo allowing guests to pose for portraits. To celebrate the hotel’s official anniversary, guests will gather for a beachside sunset toast and fireworks on February 19th. In the summer, you can look forward to their Celebrity Chef Clambake Series as well as the 4th of July Del Beach Bash. The fall will bring the Chef Throwdown to Benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Coronado Film Festival.
