Supporting Our Nation’s Largest Cultural Urban Park
Since 1997, Patrons of the Prado has raised over $3.45 million and volunteered thousands of hours to benefit the ten arts and science institutions in Balboa Park.
Patrons of the Prado’s annual fundraiser is one of San Diego’s premier events and this year’s “Masterpiece Gala” is being co-chaired by Stephanie Brown.
10 Things About Stephanie Brown & Patrons of the Prado
#1 I was born & raised in Chandler, Arizona. My roots & family are in Minnesota, but my heart is in San Diego!
#2 I grew up with a white Labrador named Blanca. I had a cat Gizmo, but I just love dogs – they are fun to cuddle with and run with and are always so happy to see you when you come home. Blanca used to watch over me and protect me and I loved her very much!
#3 My father, Jeffrey Brown always wanted me to be me, not what the world or everyone else wanted me to be, so he challenged me to find myself and be the best person I could be.
#4 I am the granddaughter of LeRoy Brown – yes, we had fun with the Jim Croce song – “Bad Bad LeRoy Brown”
#5 I received a full-ride scholarship for softball to the University of Notre Dame. I was one of three captains and set a Big East record for hits in a single season. After college, I was recruited to play in the National Professional Softball League for the Chicago Bandits.
#6 I was born on 11/11 – Veteran’s Day – another reason why I am patriotic!
#7 In 2015, I was working at the San Diego Union Tribune and my boss, Papa Doug Manchester, agreed to donate 100 full page ads to help commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1917 Panama-California International Expo! We became the presenting title sponsor, so I assisted with the gala and shortly after, I joined the Board and became a member of Patrons of the Prado.
#8 The Spreckels Organ Pavilion is such a beautiful and unique location to host a gala. The amazing and wonderfully talented & dedicated women that are part of Patrons of the Prado, truly become your family.
#9 I love when the children perform at the gala; they are the future and if we do not support them and teach them about art, culture, theatre, science and history, then we are not doing our job to inspire and influence the next generation.
#10 All ten of our beneficiaries will receive “Bucks 4 Buses” grants for transportation that will enable underserved school children to experience the educational riches of Balboa Park. Since 2011, Patrons has raised $481,250 to transport over 134,000 children, many from Title 1 schools, to experience the educational wonders of Balboa Park.
