“If you want to run fast, run alone. If you want to run far, run together.”

Voices for Children transforms the lives of abused, abandoned, or neglected children by providing them with trained volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). Voices for Children believes that every child deserves a safe and permanent home and, to that end, will provide a trained CASA volunteer to every child who needs one, and advocate to improve the lives of children in the foster care system. Patricia Brutten, co-chair of Wine Women & Shoes, invites you to an afternoon of fashion and philanthropy benefitting Voices for Children.

10 Things About Patricia Brutten & Voices for Children

#1 I grew up in Burbank, but I have been in San Diego since age 17.

#2 My first job was in a clothing boutique. I was 16 years old and obsessed with fashion. It was a boutique that some of our friends worked at and it was in a great retail center, so I was lucky to get hired!

#3 I do love the experience of a simple, authentic wood fired oven pizza from Il Fornaio or the sugar spiced salmon from Pacifica Del Mar. Both are classically great restaurants that consistently deliver amazing meals at the Del Mar Plaza!

#4 My favorite book is Shantaram. It’s 800 pages but worth every page!

#5 I loved “The Green Book,” which recently won the best picture Academy Award.

#6 I am in love with my new German Shepard “Pepper!” He is terrorizing the neighborhood with his ferocious bark, but he really just wants to be a loving lap dog. He is so smart and obedient.

#7 My very favorite thing to do is to ride my horses. I have two right now, and we occasionally show in the hunter ring. It’s very much a hobby that is both addicting and meditative.

#8 I feel very fortunate every day, and I want others to feel that love and support too. I have so much, the very least I can do is to give back!

#9 Wine Women & Shoes will benefit Voices for Children’s Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program, which provides volunteer advocates to children in foster care.

#10 After having just watched the Academy Awards, it’s interesting how it all comes back to the recipients thanking their parents. Life without parents has to be incredibly difficult. So being able to provide the services of an advocate and an adult role model for youth in foster care is important and impactful.
