Whatever and however you can, you can be a part of making a difference
St Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC) has always been there to help its students work through the daily challenges of finding fulfillment and happiness, and battle obstacles such as prejudice, discrimination and society’s misconceptions. Because there is no cure for developmental disabilities, longtime supporters like Dee Ammon, make it possible for the developmentally disabled to receive the services they require through all stages of life, from infant to senior citizen.
10 Things About Dee Ammon and St Madeleine Sophie’s Center
#1 I’m a Pacific Islander – born in Guam!
#2 I love the Smoked Salmon Rillettes and Branzino Putanesca at Parc Bistro on Fifth.
#3 “Band of Brothers” by Stephen E. Ambrose and “The Choice” by Dr. Edith Eva Eger are my favorite books.
#4 My favorite movie is the “Sound of Music” – love, music, family, survival!
#5 My mother always preached that it is better to give than to receive.
#6 I am a WWII enthusiast in particular, the War in Europe. I watch a lot of the documentaries; read up on it and when in Europe, I make it a point to visit many of the historical sites.
#7 If I could have lunch with any one person, it would be Melinda Gates! She’s an amazing woman who wants to see diversity in the technological workplace and more women in those jobs. A large focus of her philanthropy supports global health and education.
#8 My family was very philanthropic and involved with our church and community. It is rewarding to give back to the community – be it with time or treasure in support of the programs or much needed equipment for the organization. Being “hands-on” serving Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner to the homeless and less fortunate is always gratifying. I am blessed to be able to participate and give back to the community and I want to thank my husband, Jon for always supporting me and my endeavors.
#9 I have supported St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center for a number of years. The arts programs have nurtured the talents of the participants – I especially love their theatrical performances.
#10 I have dear friends who have their adult children attending St. Madeleine’s and I have seen Morgan, Jillian and Ryan actively participate in the Fashion Shows over the years. Ryan especially loves the swim program and has done very well. The programs in place at St. Madeleine’s have brought such happiness and joy to their participants. They are involved in the community, leading meaningful and purposeful lives.
