Most of the ESCAPADITAS we feature in Giving Back Magazine are about relaxing, pampering and getting away from it all. This month, we share with you Sequoia National Park an experience that will certainly change your lives. Only six hours away, Sequoia National Park will transport you not only to another time, you will experience another world.
Our journey to Sequoia began by driving North on the 5 Freeway until arriving to central California, then East into the elevations of the Sierra Nevada. The drive can be made in one day, but we decided to split the drive into two days spending the night in Visalia, a small city outside the park. The next day, we woke up early to enjoy the drive up the mountain and its breath-taking views.
Many of us know the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe as the backdrop for countless luncheons and galas, intimate dinners among friends or one of the most scenic backdrops for a wedding in San Diego, but we sometimes forget that the Inn is one of the most romantic places to stay in the country.
Rancho Santa Fe began over a century ago as a Mexican land grant given in gratitude to San Diego's first alcalde, or mayor, Juan Osuna. In the 1900's, the Osuna family sold 6,000 acres to the Santa Fe railroad to plant a Eucalyptus forest which proved unsuitable for railroad ties but perfect for today's shaded groves. The town Rancho Santa Fe and the guesthouse for prospective land purchasers developed over time, and that original guest house evolved gracefully into The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe.
