Committed to the Latino community.
By Brian Lee, Wells Fargo San Diego Region Bank President.
Wells Fargo is proud to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, recognizing the culture and traditions of the Latino community and their contributions to society.
With more than 160 years serving the community, Wells Fargo continues to be a leader in providing high quality programs and services that empower Latinos to achieve their financial goals. According to the most recent U.S. Census data, the number of Hispanics accounted for in the U.S. is expected to grow to 28.6 percent of the total population by the year 2060 – making Hispanics the largest ethnic or racial minority group in the United States.
As a financial institution, Wells Fargo is committed to creating economic opportunities that meet the demands of a fast-growing Hispanic population. Our company’s vision and values remain deeply rooted in promoting diversity and inclusion in all aspects and levels of our business.
One way we continue to support the Latino community is through Wells Fargo’s Diverse Community Capital grant program, which aims to increase access to capital for diverse-owned small business owners. In 2017, this program helped provide $75 million in loans to Hispanic entrepreneurs. That same year, Wells Fargo was also named the number one bank originator for home loans for Hispanics. Since then, we have invested more than $2.8 million in homebuyer education and counseling incentives, delivering on our mission to help more families become homeowners.
Our support extends far beyond our financial services. Last year, Wells Fargo contributed $286.5 million to 14,500 nonprofits, educational programs and schools, including $62.7 million to organizations specifically serving the Hispanic community. This enables us to support national and local organizations including the American Red Cross, Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Mexican-American Women’s National Association (MANA) de San Diego, the Chicano Federation and Barrio Logan College Institute, among others.
As we continue to foster a diverse and inclusive culture for all Wells Fargo team members and customers, we are proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month—and look forward to continue building better opportunities in the communities we serve.
