The New Children’s Museum.

The New Children’s Museum downtown is an arts-based children’s museum, focused on early learning through inventive and engaging experiences with contemporary art. A non-profit institution, the Museum is funded by admissions, memberships and community support. One of the key sources of funding each year is the gala, proceeds of which support the Museum’s creative and innovative programming, as well as help fund access efforts to allow more children to experience the Museum at little to no cost to them.

This year’s fundraising event, Studio 200 on Island, will be held at the Museum Saturday October 14, 2017. Known for its creative and entertaining galas, the Museum will be transforming its multi-level contemporary downtown venue into the hottest set of nightclubs in town. Guests will enter to the cool stylings of San Diego’s very own youth trio, the Dharma Jazz Initiative. Then partygoers can work their way through a seriously groovy 70’s club featuring local favorite Atomic Groove, a totally rockin 80’s venue with San Diego mix master extraordinaire DJ Junior the Disco Punk and a high-energy Top 40 dance floor.

Creative cocktails and fine cuisine will be served throughout the evening. Plus, all Museum galleries and studios will be open for exploration as guests indulge their creativity with hands-on art making activities.

The event also features several one-of-a-kind silent auction packages inspired by the Museum’s art and play-based mission. Offerings include a “Night at the Museum” sleepover for kids as well as grown-up "Big City Art + Culture Experiences" in LA, Chicago, New York, San Francisco and San Diego. Each trip includes airfare, hotel accommodations, dining and a unique “art experience.”

The Clubs at Studio 200 are open from 6:00 – 10:00pm, with a speakeasy-themed After Party from 10:00pm – 1:00am.

Studio 200 will be held just a few months shy of 2018, which will be a milestone year for the Museum, celebrating 35 years in San Diego and 10 years downtown. The Museum opened in 1983 in La Jolla as the Children's Museum/Museo de los Niños and reopened downtown as The New Children’s Museum in 2008. Bringing families together in a rich educational environment that fosters creativity, the Museum represents the best elements of children’s museums, contemporary art museums and community resources.
