In August of 1969, San Ysidro Health opened in a little white house, a “casita” with only 3 rooms and 4 dedicated volunteers. Established by a courageous, community group of 7 resilient mothers, they opened their doors and welcomed their first patients with great warmth, dedication and “cariño."
This year, they turn 50 and invite you to join in Celebrating 50 years of Compassionate Care for All. Over the span of 5 decades, San Ysidro Health has evolved from a small clinic located along the border into a leading countywide network of 34 program sites providing innovative medical, dental and behavioral health services for the 95,000 lives in their care. They are proud of their 1,400 employees - the majority who live and work in the same underserved communities.
San Ysidro Health started by serving mothers and children in a mostly Spanish speaking population and now offer comprehensive health services for the entire family, from pediatrics to geriatrics and everything in-between in multiple languages including Arabic, Aramaic, Tagalog and English.
While San Ysidro Health started from humble beginnings, their values, passion and sense of compassion have remained the same. Throughout the organization’s journey they have encountered others who have joined them with the same drive and mission: to provide to improve the health and well-being of the communities they serve with access for all.
Their wish is to continue provide compassionate care for the most vulnerable. We invite you to join in any capacity you are able to: as an advocate, volunteering your time, donating your skills or by giving to help meet the needs of the families they serve.
