The Women’s Event.
The Jewish Federation of San Diego County is dedicated to building a vibrant and inclusive local Jewish community, and to enhancing the well-being of people in San Diego, Israel, and throughout the world. As one of more than 150 Federations in North America and part of the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), the Jewish Federation of San Diego County has helped to build one of the most impressive charitable networks in the world.
On Sunday, January 21st, more than 1,000 Jewish women will join the Jewish Federation of San Diego County to celebrate the collective impact we have on our local and global Jewish Community. The event Co-Chaired by Britney Ewing and Kira Finkenberg will honor the amazing leadership and contributions of Claire Ellman, the 2018 Ann Ratner Award winner. Claire Ellman’s extraordinary history of profound leadership in our Jewish community dates back thirty years when, as a newcomer from South Africa, she served pizza to the SDJA students at lunch. She ultimately went on to become the school’s president, and with her husband, David, was central to envisioning and creating SDJA’s Carmel Valley campus.
Claire’s dedication and vision have gone far beyond her children’s school. She was president of the Agency for Jewish Education; served on the Federation board and was Board Chair from 2011 to 2013. Claire was also a board member of UCSD Hillel, the Jewish Community Foundation, the Jewish Women’s Foundation, and President of the Agency for Jewish Education. Nationally, Claire has served on the national boards of Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), United Jewish Communities (UJC), and the Jewish Education Service of North America (JESNA). She is a Wexner Fellow graduate. Claire is Co-Founder and current advisor of Chai South Africa, an international fund for Jewish institutions in Southern Africa.
