We all know how food impacts health and how a well-balanced diet is correlated with living longer. All of our inner organs are influenced by what we feed them, and just as importantly, our skin is also impacted. There are certain foods that will make your skin healthier and younger, while others can accelerate the aging process and cause wrinkles. We need to eat certain types of foods to keep producing healthy skin cells and to help us look and feel younger.

Here is a list of foods that you can benefit from, the ones to eat in moderation, and those that you should completely avoid:

Lentils, Beans, and Fish

We need protein to maintain healthy skin. However, it is important that you consume the good types of protein. Lentils, beans, and fish are a great choice. Lima beans and pinto beans are also especially high on the list.

Salmon

This fish is packed with Omega 3’s and healthy fats that help keep your skin moisturized, supple and glowing. It also contains Vitamin E which protects against inflammation. All the nutrients and protein in salmon help your skin look younger and maintains the elasticity.

Avocados

This fruit is full of Vitamin C and E that help protect your skin from sun damage. Additionally, the nutrients in avocado help your skin remain supple and moisturized.

Whole Grains

Oatmeal, quinoa, brown rice all help curb inflammation. These foods are also full of Vitamin B which helps prevent scaly looking skin and rashes.

Fruits and Vegetables

Broccoli, spinach, and leafy, green vegetables all fight inflammation and are full of Vitamin A and C. Watermelon and grapefruit contain a nutrient called Lycopene, which helps to rid the body of toxins.

Sugar, White Flour, and Deep-fried foods

Avoiding these is beneficial as they can cause inflammation or water retention. This includes foods like pasta, candy, bread, cereals, doughnuts, sugary pastries, potato chips, and French fries. These contribute to aging skin and wrinkles. Eating them also interferes with the amino acids that build collagen and elasticity in our skin and accelerates the skin’s aging process.

Alcohol Consumption

You may have heard how red wine is good for your overall heart health, but it needs to be limited. Have no more than one drink, which is five ounces, or two glasses per day. Anything more, or drinking other types of alcohol without moderation, dehydrates the skin and speeds up the aging process.

With the right diet, maintaining your health can be simple and rewarding.
