In 1955 Craig Noel and Irma Macpherson founded the Globe Guilders, an auxiliary of The Old Globe, a volunteer-based group of individuals who donate their talents and strengths to enhance the diverse programs at the Globe. Annually they help raise funds and awareness for The Old Globe’s artistic and arts engagement programs. On August 30, they will host the 27th annual Fashion Show, Celebrating Couture 2017: The Art of Fashion, an exclusively curated show featuring the Fall collections, including both couture and prêt-à-porter, of a special group of designers. Proceeds from the event will continue to expand the impact the Globe makes in the community and help make theatre matter to more people. The Globe Guilders have a 62-year tradition of supporting The Old Globe, San Diego’s largest arts institution.
The fashion show fundraiser will give you a firsthand look at the fashion trends that will define the Fall/Winter Season in San Diego. This year, from New York to Milan, fashion has become the creative platform to reflect a world of assertion and empowerment. Rich and robust reds, shocking pinks, and gorgeous greens all share the spotlight. The early ’80s are reflected in rebellious punk-rock studs, spikes, grommets and silver sequins. On the softer side, expect transparent sheers, flounced cuffs and beautiful crushed velvets appearing on everything from handbags to shoes.
Every year the Globe Guilders proudly bring this highly anticipated couture event to San Diego. This year, under the leadership of Co-Chairs Kim Neapole, Lisa Berry Shaw, and Lynn Silva, Celebrating Couture 2017 will take place at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. On the day of the event, guests will be greeted with a champagne reception, live and silent auctions, lunch, and a fashion show. Corporate sponsor Sycuan Casino is providing transportation from Neiman Marcus in Fashion Valley to the event for a nominal fee.
“The Globe Guilders Fashion Show has always been a San Diego highlight,” Honorary Chair Jo Ann Kilty shares with Giving Back Magazine. “With the collaboration of Neiman Marcus, it just keeps getting better every year.” Kilty is passionate about the arts and has served as Chair of the Del Mar Cultural Arts Committee and on the board of the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. In 2009, she joined the Globe’s board and serves on the Development Committee. Kilty was recognized as Honorary Chair for the 2011 Globe Guilders Fashion Show and co-chaired the 2012 Globe Gala as well as the 2015 Club 3515 Gala during the Globe’s 80th anniversary. She has also enjoyed being both a Production Sponsor and an Artist Sponsor on several Globe productions.
