bill waltonIndependence is an innate human need – one that we may take for granted. Imagine the ramifications of becoming a quadriplegic, visually impaired, mentally impaired or otherwise disabled. Where would you go for assistance? How would you transition back into society? More than 190,000 of your fellow San Diegans face these challenges.

Now imagine an organization that has empowered people with disabilities to lead independent lives for 35 years. Access to Independence is such an organization - a cross-disability non-profit run largely by employees with disabilities. As an agent of social change, Access to Independence integrates people with disabilities back into community life through comprehensive programs, such as peer counseling, independent living skills, housing options, employment and assistive technology.

The 35th Anniversary Gala on May 6th at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort with title sponsor U.S. Bank, San Diego Padres, SDG&E, Southwest Airlines, Chevron as well as Giving Back Magazine and Entravision among many more will welcome guests to a celebratory evening – recognizing contributions and achievements. It will also be an opportunity to celebrate Access to Independence's perseverance and continual commitment to changing the lives of individuals with disabilities and raise funds that support the growth and longevity of its programs and services.
