yolandasThere are few events and organizations that touch both sides of the border that have not benefitted from the creative and philanthropic efforts of two very important women in our community; Yolanda Walter-Meade and Yolanda S. Walther-Meade. A grand party was held to recognize their significant cross-border impact with over four hundred guests attending. This mother-daughter duo has supported such important organizations as the University of San Diego, The San Diego Latino Film Festival, the Fundación Internacional de la Comunidad, the Tijuana Boys and Girls Club, La Cuna and the International Community Foundation.

womensFor over one hundred years, The La Jolla Woman's Club has provided a forum for discussions, a program of education and a social environment. The organization has been strengthened by the exceptional women that have served La Jolla for many years. A luncheon and fashion show was held to celebrate these women who are making a difference in the community.

vibraVibra Bank and The Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego organized an evening to celebrate art and traditions. Guests had the opportunity to meet renowned photographer Claudia Zamudio whose exhibition titled Ruta de la Independencia was presented at Vibra Bank in Chula Vista. Traditional Mexican food and drinks completed this successful and fun evening among friends.

seacrestThe Women's Auxiliary of Seacrest Village Retirement Communities held their thirty third annual gala, Champagne on Ice. Event chair Jane Ottenstein and President Mary Epsten along with the committee presented a spectacular evening of dancing, dining and even a presentation of figure skating on ice. All proceeds from the event will help the Resident Assistance Fund at Seacrest Village.

operaPuccini's masterpiece Turandot opened the 2011 San Diego Opera season with a black-tie gala studded affair. A cocktail reception was held at the US Grant and guests were then escorted by dragon dancers down the street to enjoy a performance of Turandot. After the opera, the night was only just beginning as guests returned to the hotel which was decorated as Imperial Peking China complete with music, dancing and Chinese cuisine.

novaFun was the name of the game at the Orchestra Nova concert as the fantastic violinist Lindsay Deutsch entertained. Guests enjoyed delicious hors d'oeuvres and sipped on wine while bidding on silent auction items, then settling into their seats as the auctioneer encouraged big bids for such live auction items as an American Airlines South American holiday, and a chance to rehearse and perform with the orchestra. More than sixty thousand dollars were raised to support its music education and other programs.

museum-artThe President of the Board of Trustees Tom Gildred and Executive Director Roxana Velasquez welcomed donors and supporters to the grand opening of two exhibitions; Thomas Gainsborough and the Modern Woman and Howard Hodgkin: Time and Place 2001-2010 at The San Diego Museum of Art. Guests enjoyed cocktails as they were the first to view this one-of-a-kind collection at one of San Diego’s most beautiful venues.


mingeiThe exhibition Zandra Rhodes-A Lifelong Affair with Textiles recently opened at the Mingei International Museum with a grandiose soiree and fashion show. The high fashion garments from the sixties through the eighties will be showcased until April of next year. Prominent people from the San Diego community came to celebrate the opening of the exhibit that features imaginative, colorful fabrics and garments that capture the imagination.


mcasdThe Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach have joined forces to present Mexico: Expected/Unexpected. The exhibition features more than one hundred artworks selected from the Isabel and Agustin Coppel Collection, one of Mexico’s most comprehensive contemporary art collections. Guests arrived from all over Mexico to celebrate this unique art exhibition that places our museum in the international spotlight.


las-patronasTen deserving San Diego nonprofit organizations received their much-anticipated grant funding from Las Patronas during a luncheon in La Jolla. Las Patronas president Sallie Warren welcomed guests to a memorable presentation that showcased the heart and soul that is put into their fundraising. Among this year's beneficiaries were MCASD, The Old Globe Threatre and Rady Children's Hospital.
