The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary proudly honored fifteen San Diego women for their dedication to serving the community at the Annual Women of Dedication Luncheon. Yvonne Larsen and Chris Andrews, a fabulous Mother-Daughter team, co-chaired the 46th annual event with over seven hundred people gathered to commemorate these outstanding women among them Vicki Eddy, Reena Horowitz and Lynn Wheeler, among many more.
One of the most anticipated fashion events of the year was recently held at the Landmark Aviation hangar in downtown San Diego. The event marks the opportunity to view the latest designs of the spring collections from renowned American and European designers. Guests also enjoyed a special on-site merchandise boutique to showcase the collections featured on the runway.
Mothers and Daughters Club Assisting Philanthropies celebrated fifty one years of supporting philanthropic organizations with their annual benefit show. A variety of song and dance routines calling on our California style were performed by the amazingly talented young ladies. This signature fundraising event has been able to provide financial support to dozens of local charities.
The newest museum in La Jolla opened its doors with a lovely private party. The Map & Atlas Museum of La Jolla offers over 500 years worth of history and beauty in vintage maps and atlases. Visitors can enjoy maps are from all over the world that are part of one of the world's best collections. The museum was founded by local businessman and philanthropist Michael Stone, who has been collecting maps for 20 years.
The San Diego Latino Film Festival turned 18 years old this year and it really has come into its own. Eleven days and nights showcasing 160 films for all ages and tastes were enjoyed by over 20,000 festival attendees. Latin stars from the screen and TV, celebrated filmmakers, artists and musicians walked the red carpet and attended screenings, parties and galas. This festival is setting the stage for Latin films world-wide and we are lucky to have it here in San Diego. Among the many sponsors, Giving Back Magazine and Alaska Airlines were proud to be part of this year's festival.
Sponsored by the Leichtag Foundation, the 21st Annual Jewish Film Festival held an opening party after their first film. Films were shown at five movie theaters around town. The films showcased the best contemporary movies on Jewish themes from around the world, and brought an international roster of visiting artists to introduce their work, answer audience questions and participate in panel discussions.
IT GIRLS is a group of young professional women who are involved in art, photography, fashion, culinary arts and make-up. They recently organized an exclusive event at LeConteiner in Tijuana to help promote their organziation. Women from Tijuana joined forces to motivate other young women who are looking to start their own careers and become known locally and internationally.
HSBC Bank USA held a private party marking the grand opening of its new branches in San Diego. Since opening its first facility in December 2009, HSBC's San Diego network now extends to three branches and a Premier Center, employing numerous local people and serving thousands of customers.
During the evening, HSBC presented checks for five thousand dollars to four local charities.
The first fashion show and luncheon fundraiser benefiting the San Diego Food Bank's Food 4 Kids Backpack Program featured trend-setting designers, models from New York and Los Angeles and a glittering array of local celebrities. Funds raised that day go to supporting the Backpack program which provides weekend backpacks of food to chronically hungry elementary school children.
