Think, Play, Create...
Providing impactful and fun educational experiences is at the heart of the New Children's Museum. By engaging children through art, play and exploration, the New Children's Museum is nurturing the skills needed for the 21st century: creativity, confidence, problem solving, critical thinking and curiosity about the world.
10 Things About Lynn Gorguze & New Children's Museum
Lynn Gorguze initially took her two children to the NCM when it was in the old warehouse during the 90's. Her family has been avid supporters ever since and Lynn joined the Board 5 years ago to give back in an even bigger way.
#1 I grew up in St. Louis. I am an only child and had a great childhood.
#2 My first job was as a lifeguard and during the same summer, I filed checks at a bank. As soon as I could work full time as a lifeguard, I was out of that bank!
#3 I love to read. A favorite novel I read recently is "All The Light We Cannot See".
#4 I helped write a book about human rights in Albania. (My father was Albanian).
#5 I have found that through non-profit organizations, I have met folks I would have never met otherwise. We share the same passions and their friendship has enriched my life tremendously.
#6 For the past six years, a Title 1 school in North County has been bringing their entire school (K – 5) to the Museum. For many of these kids, the trip to the Museum is their one chance to leave their neighborhood and their first time to a museum.
#7 We hear from teachers how the children's experiences at the Museum have made them more inquisitive, more collaborative and more creative. It has been incredibly rewarding to watch these students grow with us.
#8 The Wonder Sound installation is comprised of 30+ rooms, tunnels, crawlspaces, and bridges to explore. It's great to see parents put their phones away and actively engage with their kids. We love it when parents can "unplug" and be present with their children.
#9 We have several large tables with wooden blocks and families spend hours building structures and towers. Sometimes we see a child wanting to go explore another part of the Museum, but the parent is busy putting the finishing touches on their 3-foot tower!
#10 It's fun to see folks dressed up in creative, whacky costumes at our Studio 200 on Island fundraiser. I love the energy and the casual "anything goes" attitude.
