Joye Blount St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center

Always remember where you came from; one day you can be a peacock and the next, a feather duster.

St. Madeleine Sophie's Center has been serving individuals with developmental disabilities for over 50 years. SMSC is constantly innovating and growing with their students who range in age from 22 to over 80 years, to ensure they are empowered to realize their full potential as individuals for a lifetime.

The Haute with Heart fundraiser benefitting St. Madeleine Sophie's Center, was one of the early fundraisers Joye Blount attended. SMSC's mission to serve individuals with developmental disabilities resonated with Joye. Joye along with her husband Jessie Knight, epitomize what it means to give back and do so with class, grace, compassion and style.

#2 At the age of 12, I worked as a pharmaceutical assistant. This opportunity introduced me to the importance of great customer service and of empathy and understanding to those in your community who are faced with challenges.

#4 My philanthropic roots began with my parents and the inclusiveness of growing up in a small, faith-based community. Small gestures and routines of giving were always around you. Whether it was baking a dish in a time of need, or taking up a special offering to assist someone in tough times, the simple act of kindness was taught at an early age.
