Always Give More Than You Receive

Last year, San Diego's Ronald McDonald House supported families experiencing a medical crisis by providing overnight stays for more than 1,500 families. Through the Family Care Center, 12,500 additional family members received more than 120,000 free hot meals, access to children's play areas, laundry facilities, a gym, nap rooms and spa-like showers. All of this and more is made possible by tremendous support from our community which includes superstars like Jamie and Joey Straza who are chairing the ROMP Gala.

10 Things About Jamie Straza & Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego

#1 Growing up, I worked at McDonald's with my father. I'd go to the restaurants with him after school or on weekends. However, my first job outside of McDonald's was at Nordstrom...it was a teenage girl's dream!

#2 I'm a Dog person for sure. Our family thought it would be a great idea to get a new puppy since our oldest son is leaving for college. This makes three labs in our house. It's a dog party!

#3 If I could have lunch with any one person, it would be my husband, Joey.

#4 I've always felt that it's better to give than to receive and I've been blessed to be able to impact people's lives through creating opportunities for them.

#5 I've been supporting Ronald McDonald House ever since I can remember but it took on a new meaning when I became a mother. There is nothing like a sick child and how that impacts the entire family.

#6 When I was working at McDonald's, we would go to the House and volunteer during the Holidays. We would bring Christmas to the families who were staying there and serve dinner. I remember leaving there saying to myself, "Wow, I feel like I just had Christmas too!"

#9 One of my favorite memories of ROMP is the "Eighties House Party" in 2016. My husband showed up in a "Members Only" jacket and sideburns and I almost didn't recognize him. The evening was so much fun and we raised an incredible amount of money for the House!

#10 Hands down my favorite part of ROMP is listening to the families speak at the event. When they share their story and the effect that the House has had on them, to me, there is nothing more impactful and nothing that makes it more clear as to why we all need to do what we do to support this great organization.
