Rise Up! in the name of children
THE PROBLEM: Behavioral health disorders affect over 90% of children who commit suicide, making it the third leading cause of death for teenagers.
THE SOLUTION: Through prevention and intervention, the San Diego Center for Children (SDCC) gives children the help they need to have better health, improved relationships and overall quality of life.
For over 20 years, the SDCC has had Joyce Glazer championing their cause. Joyce has done everything from painting storage buildings to taking children to tree lighting ceremonies to co-chairing their fundraiser on June 9, 2018.
10 Things About Joyce Glazer & San Diego Center for Children
#1 We moved to San Diego in January of 1989. I didn’t know a single person other than the man I married two weeks prior to our move.
#2 I can’t remember when I didn’t work. As a young person, I always worked in order to buy what my parents couldn’t afford.
#3 I knew what it was like to go without so when I was in a position to help others, I felt a great desire and obligation to help less fortunate people.
#4 I have seen San Diego Center for Children grow and provide more services to the children in our community. When I am on campus, I see children who are getting the care that they need, and they are enjoying themselves.
#5 I am thrilled to be working with my good friends, Vince Heald and Clinton Walters on this year’s fundraiser. All of the funds we raise will go toward providing evidence-based therapeutic, educational care to children and families. To be a part of helping them is my reward.
#6 For 131 years, SDCC has been helping children and families find hope and healing while reassuring them that they are not alone in their struggles.
#7 If someone knows of a child or family that is in need of help, we urge them to contact SDCC for support. 1 in 5 children in San Diego County is struggling with a behavioral health disorder; 80% of which are not receiving the help they need.
#8 We encourage people to learn more about SDCC by touring our 12-acre main campus in Linda Vista to see our work in action.
#9 We offer a myriad of opportunities for people to get involved such as volunteering, attending our annual fundraising events, donating in-kind items, or a financial contribution through personal funds or an employer’s giving program.
#10 At our fundraiser, guests will hear stories of how youths like 15-year-old Annie and her family have received help through our Residential Treatment Program, and are now flourishing.
